Nationals reside in 3.5 mln homes in Saudi; expats in 1.9 mln

Saudi Arabia currently has 5.47 million residential units, with nationals residing in 3.51 million of these homes, according to the Saudi General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT).

 

Expats are currently residing in the remaining 1.96 million homes.

 

The holy city of Makkah has the highest number of houses in use by nationals at 872,300, followed by Riyadh with 829,200 houses.

 

Makkah has around 623,000 houses occupied by non-nationals, while Riyadh has 521,500 houses.

Rented properties accounted for 50.4 percent, or 2.8 million of Saudi Arabia, while owned properties represented 2.2 million, or 40.1 percent. A total of 517,200 homes are allocated for staff housing.

By region, Jazan has the highest rate of the owned properties at 63 percent. Makkah has the highest share of the rented houses at 57 percent, while 18 percent of homes in Al Qassim are allocated for staff housing.
