Dubai's Nakheel awards $1.1 bln contract for region’s new biggest mall

Dubai-based master developer Nakheel has awarded a $1.14 billion (AED 4.2 billion) construction contract for Deira Mall in Deira Island to local contractor, United Engineering Construction (UNEC).

 

The construction of the AED 6.1 billion Deira Mall— the region's biggest mall and the UAE's largest in terms of leasable space— will be completed in 2021, the company said in a statement on Sunday.

 

The mall will have more than 1,000 shops, cafes, restaurants and entertainment outlets across 4.5 million square feet of leasable space, and a 3.8 million square feet multi-storey car park with 8,400 parking bays.

 

Deira Mall is the centrepiece of Deira Central, Nakheel's nine million square feet mixed-use community at Deira Islands and forms part of Nakheel Malls' AED 16 billion expansion that will take its total retail space to over 17 million square feet, the statement added.
