POS transactions drop 8% to SAR 8.6 bln in week ending Feb. 6: SAMA

The point-of-sale (POS) transactions fell by 8% to SAR 8.56 billion in the week ending Feb. 6, 2021, from SAR 9.30 billion in the previous week, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.

 

Data showed that a total of 83.2 million transactions were processed in the week ending Feb. 6.

The education sector led the decline with a fall of about 33%, followed by the clothes and footwear sector that eased nearly 16%.

 

Meanwhile, sales of the electronics and electric appliances sector rose 2% to SAR 327.55 million.

 

Consumer spending focused on food and beverages sector during the week, valued at nearly SAR 1.4 billion, followed by the restaurants and cafes sector with SAR 1.08 billion and miscellaneous goods and services sector with SAR 763.6 million.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions by cities in terms of value with SAR 2.73 billion, representing 32% of the total sales. Jeddah came second with over SAR 1.43 billion.
