Saudi Arabia took important steps to boost agricultural development and enhance food security, Vice Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture Mansour Al Mushaiti said in a statement.

This, in turn, contributed to improving food security indicators as well as consumption patterns, reducing waste, ensuring high levels of self-sufficiency, and increasing operating as well as production efficiency, he added.

Saudi Arabia developed a vision based on building a sustainable agricultural sector that will help fulfil food and water security, in addition to the economic, social and environment development.

The Kingdom also adopted a strategy for responsible agricultural investment abroad, while developing agricultural and marketing services and improving agricultural productivity and food quality, the Vice Minister said.

It also implemented several technologies via its local, regional and international partnerships. Al Mushaiti also highlighted the Kingdom’s role in bolstering the food-related sectors via developing infrastructure in transport as well as research businesses, in addition to launching several investment opportunities in the field.

He also stressed the significance of taking short- and long-term measures to overcome the industry challenges.
