Saudi Arabia to import 720,000 tons of wheat

09/03/2017 Argaam

Saudi Arabia has issued an international tender to buy 720,000 tons of hard wheat, Ahmed Al-Fares, governor of the Saudi Grains Organization (SAGO), said on Thursday.

The kingdom expects to receive the shipment between May and July 2017. The tender deadline is March 10.

The imported wheat will be in 12 individual consignments of 60,000 tons, which will be distributed between the ports of Jeddah and Dammam.

The tendered wheat represents the first batch of imports for the current year, to meet local demand.

Last December, the kingdom’s grain authority imported 725,000 tons of hard wheat.
