Saudi Arabia, Jordan to begin power grid construction by 2022

Saudi Arabia and Jordan will begin construction of their power connectivity project by 2022, Saudi Press Agency reported on Monday, citing Amjad Rawashdeh, director general of Jordan’s National Electric Power Co. (NEPCO).

The 170 kilometer power link, which will be built between Eastern Amman and Qurayyat, was approved by a Jordanian-Saudi technical committee last week.

“The new link is expected to develop a common Arab market for electricity exchange among the GCC region, Jordan, Egypt, Palestine, Syria and Iraq,” Rawashdeh said.

"The project will also help reduce the risk of sudden outages or continuous changes in energy produced by renewable power plants due to weather conditions," he added.
