Saudi Arabia records deflation for fifth month in a row

Saudi Arabia’s inflation rate for May remained in the negative territory for the fifth consecutive month at -1.5 percent, the latest figures from the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) showed.

 

The cost of living index declined to 105.7 points in May compared to 107.3 points in the same month last year.

Prices of three main groups in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) basket declined in May. Housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel saw a decrease of 7.5 percent. The group's weight accounts for 25.38 percent of the index.

 

Seven other groups recorded higher prices, led by food and beverages group that rose 1.8 percent.
