A look at market share of major Saudi retailers in 2019

Five Saudi-based companies dominated the country’s food and non-food retail sales in 2019.

 

These companies are: Panda Retail, Abdullah Al Othaim MarketsBinDawood Holding, Lulu Saudi Hypermarket s LLC, and Saudi Marketing Co. (Farm Superstores).

 

According to BinDawood's prospectus, Panda Retail was ranked first with a market share of 19.8%, followed by Al Othaim (11.3%), and BinDawood (8.7%).

 

The food and non-food retail industry in Saudi Arabia has become more competitive, with the entry of new players and expansions of the existing companies.

Panda Retail and Al Othaim have the largest network of 214 branches each, followed by Farm Superstores with 103 branches.

The Central and the Western regions accounted for the lion's share of the food and non-food retail sales in the Kingdom, holding 37.1% and 30.3%, respectively, of the total market in 2019.

 

They were followed by Eastern Province with 18.2%, Southern region (9.9%) and Northern region (4.5%).

 

Al Othaim and Panda Retail accounted for the biggest market share in the Northern, Southern and Central regions, while Panda Retail and BinDawood controlled the largest market share in the Eastern and Western regions.
