Council of Health Insurance says 30% of Saudis have private medical insurance

The number of insured persons in Saudi Arabia grew due to the increase in population over the past 10 years, Al-Eqtisadiah newspaper reported, citing Shabab Al-Ghamdi, Secretary-General of the Council of Health Insurance.

 

He pointed out that 30% of the Kingdom's population has private medical insurance, while the percentage of insured persons is expected to reach nearly 55% of the Kingdom's population by 2030.

 

The number of government health insurance beneficiaries in the Kingdom currently stands at 23 million, while the number of private insurance beneficiaries is around 11 million, Al-Ghamdi said.

 

He expects that the number of private insurance beneficiaries will reach 21 million by 2030.

 

The number of private insurance beneficiaries will increase over the coming period due to the privatization of some government sectors, the top official concluded.
