Saudi-Egypt Power Interconnection Project’s trial operation to start in May 2025: Official


The Saudi-Egypt Power Interconnection Project will start its trial operation by May 2025, Bloomberg Asharq reported, citing the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Co. CEO Sabah Mashali.

 

She asserted that the implementation of the works of the lines and transformer stations is proceeding according to the agreed time schedule.

 

The official operation will begin in two phases, the first in June 2025 and the second in November 2025. Each phase has a capacity of 1,500 megawatts (MW).

 

Mashali indicated that in if there is a surplus of electrical capacities in the line between the two parties, it will be utilized to connect with neighboring countries and export electricity to them.

 

According to data compiled by Argaam, Saudi Arabia and Egypt signed in October 2021, agreements for the Saudi-Egypt Power Interconnection Project at a total cost of $1.8 billion.
