POS transactions rise 18% to SAR 9 bln in week ending Oct. 3

The point-of-sale (POS) transactions rose by 18% to reach SAR 9.03 billion in the week ending Oct. 3, 2020, from SAR 7.68 billion in the previous week, according to the data issued by the Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority (SAMA).


Data showed that a total of 75.4 million transactions were processed in the week ending Oct.3.

All sectors witnessed an increase in POS sales during the week ending Oct. 3, except for furniture and hotels.

 

Education sector topped the rising sectors, with 137% growth, through SAR 123.6 million sales. It was followed by telecommunication sector with 49% growth, then food and beverages with 37%

 

Consumer spending focused on food & beverages sector during the same week, with nearly SAR 1.57 billion, followed by restaurants and cafes sector with SAR 1.1 billion and the healthcare sector with SAR 828.4 million.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions by cities in terms of value with SAR 2.86 billion, representing 32% of the total sales. Jeddah came second with SAR 1.43 billion.
