×POS weekly transactions up to SAR 10.4 bln: SAMA

The point-of-sale (POS) transactions reached nearly SAR 10.4 billion in the week ended Feb. 25, compared to SAR 10.35 billion in the week before, data issued by the Saudi Central Bank (SAMA) showed.
Data showed that about 147.81 million transactions were processed during the week.
POS transactions represent what consumers spend using ATMs and credit cards in shopping malls, retail stores, pharmacies, etc.

Electronics and electric appliances sector increased the most by 25%. It was followed by furniture and construction materials sectors, which rose 17% and 4%, respectively.
Education sector saw the steepest decline of 37%, followed by jewelry (9%).
During the week, consumer spending focused on the restaurants and cafes sector, reaching nearly SAR 1.58 billion, followed by food and beverages sector with SAR 1.53 billion.

Riyadh topped the POS transactions in terms of value with almost SAR 3.45 billion, or 35% of total sales. Jeddah came second with SAR 1.56 billion, as indicated below:
