Saudi Aramco awards refinery service deal to US firm

US oilfield services provider KBR Inc has been awarded a service contract to help improve a refinery in Saudi Arabia.

 

Saudi Aramco awarded the contract to provide supercritical solvent deasphalting technology for a refinery located outside Riyadh.

 

Known as Residuum Oil Supercritical Extraction (ROSE) process, the deasphalting technology will be used to separate more oils and other compounds from residues creating during the refining process.

 

“We are honored that Saudi Aramco has selected the ROSE process for their clean fuels project at the Riyadh Refinery," KBR President of Technology, John Derbyshire, said in a statement.

 

Under the terms of the contract, KBR will provide technology license, basic engineering design and proprietary equipment for Saudi Aramco's residue upgrading and clean fuels project in Riyadh.
