Point-of-sale (POS) transactions in Saudi Arabia totaled approximately SAR 11.46 billion for the week ended March 23, down from SAR 11.69 billion in the previous week.

The number of POS transactions reached about 160.25 million last week, according to data issued by SAMA.
POS transactions represent consumer expenditures through debit and credit cards at major shopping centers, retail outlets, pharmacies, and others.

The education sector declined the most, dipping by 32% week-on-week (WoW), followed by the food and beverage sector (F&B) by 23%.
On the other hand, the jewelry sector led the sectors in terms of increase with a surge of 60%. It was followed by clothing and footwear (30%) and hotels (13%).
Consumer spending was focused on the F&B sector, totaling SAR 1.74 billion during the week, followed by the miscellaneous goods and services sector with SAR 1.36 billion.
