The Madinah Region Development Authority announced the launch of nine new routes as of May 1, which is part of Madinah Bus Network project, bringing the total number of routes to 15. The expanded network covers Madinah’s most densely populated districts and key areas.
The bus fleet includes more than 177 buses, serving users through 455 main and secondary stops distributed across the network's routes, spanning 639 kilometers, the authority said.
It added that this includes six stops on the Prince Muhammad bin Abdulaziz International Airport-Prophet's Mosque route, 33 stations on the Miqat-Haramain High Speed Rail Station route, 52 on Al Faisaliyyah -Mudhainib route, 29 on the Sayyid Al-Shuhada Square-Al Aliyah route, and 37 on the Al Qaswa-Al-Khalidiyah route. These routes provide services to users 24 hours a day.
The Madinah Bus Network provides its services across 10 additional routes operating 22 hours a day, including 20 stations on the Holy Quran Printing Press - Al-Khandaq route, 39 on the Al-Faisaliah - Miqat route, and 30 on the Jabal A'ir - Al-Duaitha route. This is in addition to 12 stations on the Miqat - Industrial Cities route, 16 on the Mahzur - Bustan Al-Safiyah route, and 31 on the King Fahd District - Quba Mosque route. The network also includes 56 stops on the Shuran - Al-Arid district route, 29 on the Al-Mub'ath - Al-Oyoun route, 44 on the Airport District - Al-Aliyah route, in addition to 22 on a similar route to serve beneficiaries on the Al-Aliyah - Al-Qaswa route, the authority added.
The project, over the three years since its launch, has contributed to streamlining traffic flow on Madinah's main streets and improving the quality of transportation projects, in line with the goals of Saudi Vision 2030. It also reduced pollution from vehicle emissions.
The authority noted that improved operational performance during the peak Ramadan season eased the movement of worshippers and visitors to and from the Prophet’s Mosque, supported by 24/7 shuttle services operated by a high-quality bus fleet.
