The signing of the agreement

The Transport General Authority (TGA) and Uber Technologies signed a strategic partnership agreement to launch self-driving vehicles in Saudi Arabia.

The agreement was signed following a meeting held in Riyadh on the sidelines of the Saudi-US Investment Forum, with the presence of representatives from relevant government entities, the state-run SPA reported.

TGA will launch the first self-driving vehicle trips via Uber app, in partnership with service providers before the end of this year. Initially, the vehicles will be supported by onboard operators to help ensure safety.

Both parties will collaborate through leveraging Uber’s ride-hailing network and working with self-driving technology partners, to expand consumer access to such technology.
