Donald Trump and Jerome Powell
US President Donald Trump continued to pressure Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, stating that he should resign immediately.
Trump slammed Powell on Sunday, saying it would "be a great thing" for the US if he were to step down, adding, "he’s very bad for the country," speaking to FOX Business reporters.
"Well, I think if Jerome Powell stepped down, it would be a great thing. I don’t know that he’s going to, but he should," Trump said. "Jerome Powell has been very bad for our country. We should have the lowest interest rate on Earth, and we don’t. He just refuses to do it."
This comes after Trump repeatedly threatened to remove Powell from his position for not cutting interest rates, while the Fed Chairman maintains a wait-and-see approach, especially amid uncertainty about the impact of tariffs.
