Trump threatens 200% tariffs on China over rare earth metals

US President Donald Trump threatened to impose tariffs of up to 200% on China if the latter fails to supply the United States with rare earth magnets.
 
In remarks made on Monday, Trump said that China is “intelligently” monopolizing rare earth magnets while estimating that it would take the United States about a year to secure alternative sources.
 

“They have to give us magnets, if they don't give us magnets, then we have to charge them 200% tariffs or something,” trump told reporters, according to CNN.

 

The US President also suggested that he may visit China later this year, noting that his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, invited him to Beijing, describing relations between the two countries as extremely significant.
