The US import prices increased by more than expected in May, driven by a surge in fuel prices, according to data released on Tuesday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Import prices rose year-on-year at their fastest pace in nearly four years in May, with the prices of imported fuel surging by 45.1%.
US export prices also increased YoY at their fastest rate since August 2022, supported by a 5.5% jump in agricultural goods prices during May.
