Eleven people are now feared dead and more than 200 are now injured following a large fire which broke out on Sunday at a compound which houses Saudi Aramco employees in Khobar, Reuters reported, citing Saudi Arabia's civil defense.

The oil company in a statement said the fire broke out in a basement of the Radium residential compound.

“At 05:45 today a fire was reported in the basement of the Radium residential compound in Al Khobar which is leased by Saudi Aramco for its employees,” Aramco said in a statement.

It said that Civil Defense and Saudi Aramco fire brigades were evacuating residents.

Aramco said an investigation has begun into the cause of the blaze.
