Saudi Arabia’s Metro Jeddah Co. (MJC) is inviting expressions of interest (EOIs) for the design, construction and maintenance of the Jeddah bus network project, MEED reported on Sunday.

National and international companies, which are certified as Tier 1 contractors, will be eligible to submit EIOs. The deadline for submissions has been set for September 20.

The network, when completed will be comprised of three separate schemes. The 26 kilometer bus rapid transit (BRT) will include 30 stations and a fleet of 90 buses, while the 93 kilometer major bus corridor (MBC) will have 340 buses running across major roads in Jeddah City. The third scheme, the 182 kilometer local feeder bus system, will require 400 buses and connect districts to other modes of public transport.

The bus network is part of the $12 billion Jeddah Public Transport Plan (JPTP), which aims to ease traffic congestion in the city due to a growing population and economic activities.
