Saudi Arabian Military Industries (SAMI) signed on Friday an agreement with French airplane manufacturer Figeac Aéro to set up an airframe manufacturing plant in the Kingdom, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
The value of the deal was not disclosed.
The step came during SAMI’s participation in Paris Air Show, the world’s largest aviation and space industry event.
Under the agreement, the facility will be built in Riyadh or Jeddah to manufacture the metal components of commercial and military airframes.
The plant, which will be run by Saudi engineers and technicians, will also manufacture spare parts, including parts of commercial aircraft wings made of titanium.
The move aims to nationalize the military industry, as well as the aviation industry and its associated supply chain.
