Sales outlets and various retail activities are required to provide electronic payment facility starting today, August 25, 2020.
The decision falls in line with the announcement from the National Program for Combating the Commercial Concealment in July 2019, determining a six-phase timeline for all sales outlets to provide electronic payment methods, in cooperation with the Ministry of Trade, the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs, and the Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority (SAMA).
The implementation stages began on July 14, 2019 for fuel stations and their services, followed by auto parts stores and their related activities as a second phase. The third phase was for personal services activities such as laundries, carpets, and men and women's salons, while the fourth phase was groceries and supplies, and the fifth phase included the restaurant sector.
