Saudi Arabia successfully weathered the challenges of the food security even as other countries struggled in this regard, Al Eqtisadiah reported, citing Mansour Al Mushaiti, Vice Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture.

Since 2015, the Kingdom started the development of its food security strategy with increased dependence on local production and the development of food resources abroad, Al Mushaiti added on the sidelines of a conference on innovation and how it leads the way to solving desalination challenges.

Al Mushaiti also indicated that the Saudi food strategy sought to diversify the food resources, backed by the coordination among the different ministries to tackle the problem.

The Saudi foreign investments, through Saudi Agricultural and Livestock Investment Co. (SALIC), are also part of the pillars of the Kingdom’s food security strategy. SALIC, which helps securing the supply chains, has investments in India, Australia, Canada and Ukraine.
