Saudi Arabia’s military industries sector is witnessing a qualitative leap in localization, said Ahmed Al-Ohali, Governor of the General Authority for Military Industries (GAMI), on the sidelines of the Local Content Forum.

He added that the authority works as per a strategy that clearly outlines its goals and directions.

GAMI set legislative and regulatory frameworks that will contribute to supporting the localization of this promising sector and developing the local content.

Furthermore, Al-Ohali stressed that the number of establishments operating in the sector reached 175, compared with five when GAMI was launched, noting that such establishments decided to invest their funds in Kingdom, to be part of the comprehensive development process witnessed by the Saudi economy.

The governor highlighted the supply chain project in the sector and its role in supporting and enabling investors to contribute to supporting the ambitious localization plan.

The supply chain plan is an integral part of the military industries sector’s strategy that aims to contribute to strengthening and building supply chains and raising the level of localization.

GAMI held more than 17 workshops in various Saudi regions, which were attended by more than 350 representatives from the public and private sectors and related military authorities. Accordingly, the outputs of the supply chain project were determined, with 74 investment opportunities estimated at a total value of approximately SAR 270 billion, through six defense and security areas.

Al-Ohali said 30 supply chain opportunities were identified as top priority, representing nearly 80% of the total future spending on supply chains, at SAR 211 billion.

He concluded that the plan aims to determine the technical data, volume of demand and estimated value over the next five years.
