Saudi Arabia advanced five ranks in the United Nations Human Development Index for 2022, to reach the 35th position among 191 countries globally, compared to the 40th rank in 2021.


Meanwhile, the Kingdom ranked third regionally, following the UAE and Bahrain.

 

Saudi Arabia’s education sector achieved significant progress in the acquisition of knowledge, advancing 18 ranks in the average years of schooling index, to reach the 56th rank compared to 74 previously. This reflects the continued development and enhancement of the country’s learning ability.

 

According to the report, Switzerland ranked first in the world in terms of human development, followed by Norway, Iceland and Hong Kong.    

 

The Human Development Index measures the level of well-being experienced by peoples across the world in various areas, in order to provide a base, through which comparisons can be made between the ability of countries and societies to achieve equality, justice and prosperity for their peoples.

 

The index covers several areas, including life expectancy at birth, expected years of schooling, average years of schooling, and GDP per capita.
