GFSA awards 795,000 tons of imported wheat in 1st batch for 2024

The General Food Security Authority (GFSA) completed the procedures for awarding the first batch of imported wheat for 2024, amounting to 795,000 tons, for local market supply from the European Union, North and South America, Australia, and the Black Sea.

Governor Ahmed Al-Faris said this batch is designated for supply in the current fiscal year, under the framework of enhancing the local strategic stock of wheat, maintaining it at safe levels and meeting the needs of milling companies, the state-run news agency SPA reported.

He added that the first contracted batch will be handed over between the coming June and July via 13 ships. As many as four ships will transit at Jeddah Islamic Port, carrying 243,000 tons. Five others will deliver as much as 313,000 tons at Yanbu Commercial Port, while merely 184,000 tons will be dispatched at King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam, with another one supplying 55,000 tons through Jazan Port.

A total of 16 qualified international companies specialized in grain trade competed for this imported wheat supply tender. It was then awarded to seven companies with lower bids and matching the required specifications, according to the authority.
