A federal appeals court temporarily suspended a ruling by the Court of International Trade that had halted most of the tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump.
The ruling came after the Department of Justice filed an emergency request earlier in the day, asking the appeals court to pause the lower court’s decision while it formally appeals.
The Court of International Trade had ruled early Thursday morning that imposing such sweeping tariffs is beyond the president’s authority and is a power reserved exclusively for Congress.
