Iran’s envoy to the United Nations Amir Saeid Iravani accused the United States of colluding with Israel in its recent attacks on Iran, claiming Washington had enabled what he described as acts of aggression.
Iravani held the US fully responsible for the consequences of what he called its complicity with Israel.
In response, McCoy Pitt, a senior US State Department official, told the UN Security Council that any Iranian attack on the US would carry grave consequences.
Speaking during a session on Israel’s strikes against Iran, Pitt said Israel had informed Washington that the strikes were carried out in self-defense.
He warned that any targeting of American citizens, bases, or infrastructure by Iran would be met with severe consequences, adding that the US remains committed to a diplomatic solution that prevents Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon or threatening international peace and stability.
Pitt also stated that now would be a prudent time for Iran’s leadership to pursue negotiations, noting that while Israel had informed Washington of the strikes beforehand, the US did not participate militarily.
