Russia’s Foreign Ministry called on Israel to halt its attacks on nuclear sites in Iran, warning that continued strikes risk triggering a global nuclear catastrophe. The ministry also urged the United States to refrain from launching any military action against Tehran.
In an official statement, the ministry said that Israel’s ongoing and intensive attacks on Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities are illegal under international law, pose unacceptable threats to global security, and risk provoking a nuclear disaster with worldwide consequences—including for Israel itself.
Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov also warned that direct US military support for Israel would escalate tensions across the Middle East, according to comments reported by the Interfax news agency.
Speaking on the sidelines of the St. Petersburg Economic Forum, Ryabkov said Russia is urging Washington not to carry out a strike on Iran, cautioning that such a move would “radically destabilize” the region.
The Russian government accused Western powers of exploiting the military conflict between Israel and Iran to pursue political agendas against so-called “unfavorable” nations.
Separately, Russia’s foreign intelligence chief, Sergei Naryshkin, said the situation between Iran and Israel has reached a “critical” point. Meanwhile, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova warned that Israel’s strikes on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure have brought the world “millimeters away” from disaster.
