US President Donald Trump expressed openness to continuing trade negotiations with the European Union, while emphasizing that the notices sent to trade partners should be viewed as offers.
Speaking from the White House on July 14, Trump said Europe was seeking a different kind of deal, and that the US remained open to dialogue, including with the EU.
His remarks follow an announcement on July 12 that he had formally notified the EU of plans to impose a 30% tariff on its member states, despite ongoing negotiations between the two sides.
All countries are eager to strike trade deals with the US, which puts the country in a position of strength, Trump noted.
