US crude oil inventories unexpectedly declined during the week ended Aug. 1.

Data released today, Aug. 6, by the Energy Information Administration (EIA) showed that commercial crude oil inventories fell by three million barrels last week, compared to expectations of a 100,000-barrel increase.

Gasoline inventories also dropped by 1.3 million barrels during the same period. Similarly, distillate stocks—including diesel and heating oil—decreased by 600,000 barrels.
