Russian President Vladimir Putin said he reached an “understanding” with US President Donald Trump regarding Ukraine, emphasizing that the agreement “paves the way for peace” in the country.
Speaking at a joint press conference with Trump on Saturday morning following the bilateral summit, Putin said the situation in Ukraine is linked to fundamental threats to security, and reaching a lasting agreement requires removing all causes of this conflict.
The Russian president added that he agrees with Trump on the need to ensure Ukraine’s security, saying, “Of course, we are ready to work on that,” while warning Europe warning Europe not to derail the progress.
Trump described the bilateral meeting as having achieved “significant progress,” noting that “many points” were agreed upon, with only “a very few” remaining under discussion. He emphasized, however, that no final agreement has yet been reached.
Trump also stated that he will consult with European leaders and NATO heads to brief them on the results of the talks.
