BYD Co. Ltd. is stepping up its Gulf expansion efforts with a plan to deploy 500 to 1,000 ultra-fast electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, Executive Vice President (VP) Stella Li said.
Under this plan, BYD will offer one-megawatt units in Saudi Arabia and the UAE that can deliver a 400-kilometer range in just five minutes, Li told Asharq News.
According to the top executive, BYD’s first step in Saudi Arabia will be opening advanced showrooms to showcase its EV lineups.
She added that the China-based EV maker has poured resources into artificial intelligence and software over the past three years and will bring in engineers to advance autonomous driving and parking tech.
If market conditions align, BYD may also consider local manufacturing, the VP further stated.
The Chinese automaker already operates three branches in each of Riyadh, Jeddah and Dhahran, according to Argaam’s data.
In July, BYD - Saudi General Manager Jerome Saigot pointed to plans for further business growth. He predicted the addition of seven new branches by the second half of 2026, while forecasting sales of more than 5,000 vehicles this year.
