Saudi Arabia’s Transport General Authority (TGA) said today, Sept. 27, it has started accepting applications from companies seeking to participate in its operating model for autonomous vehicles, part of efforts to attract investment and expand the Kingdom’s smart and safe transport ecosystem.
The announcement follows the launch last week of a pilot program for self-driving vehicles in Riyadh, run in partnership with several government and private entities.
TGA said the initiative is aimed at fostering innovation and new technologies in the transport sector, improving mobility efficiency and service quality, and supporting the development of an advanced and sustainable transport system.
The move opens the door for both domestic and international companies to enter Saudi Arabia’s autonomous vehicle market, the authority added.
