Many financial markets around the world were closed on Friday in observance of Boxing Day, which falls on Dec. 26 each year, the day immediately following Christmas.

Among the markets closed today were Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Germany, Switzerland, Italy, the UK, and Canada.

These markets had already been closed on Thursday for the Christmas holiday and are scheduled to resume normal trading at the start of next week.
