US President Donald Trump has postponed planned tariff increases on furniture, kitchen cabinets and bathroom units, amid ongoing public discontent over high price levels.

The new tariffs had been due to take effect yesterday Jan. 1 but were delayed until Jan. 1, 2027, while the current 25% duties remain in place.

Trump said in September that tariffs on certain furniture products were set to rise to 30% from 25%, while duties on kitchen cabinets and bathroom units were to be increased to 50% from 25%.

The White House released a clarifying statement on the tariffs this week, during Trump’s New Year celebration at his Florida resort.

The statement said the US continues to engage in productive negotiations with its trading partners to address trade reciprocity issues and national security concerns related to wood-product imports.
