Germany’s Hapag-Lloyd said today, April 13, it is difficult to assess the final impact of US President Donald Trump’s plans to close the Strait of Hormuz, citing uncertainty that makes it impossible to estimate the damage to maritime shipping.
In an emailed statement, a company spokesperson said naval mines pose a major obstacle to vessel transit, adding that the company expects navigation to remain fully halted unless the passage is secured, Reuters reported.
The spokesperson added that restoring safe traffic through the Strait of Hormuz as quickly as possible should be the top priority for the international community and shipping firms.
