Spain’s Sener won a design contract for Saudi Arabia’s planned Landbridge railway network after Saudi Railway Co. (SAR) tendered the project in 2025 and evaluated bids through the end of the year, MEED reported.
Initial design work had been prepared by Italferr S.p.A., with the project now in an advanced planning phase as the new contract progresses engineering concepts and detailed designs.
The roughly 1,500-kilometer project will link Jeddah on the Red Sea with Dammam and Jubail on the Arabian Gulf, cutting cargo transit times and improving trade efficiency across industrial corridors.
Authorities opted for a phased execution model instead of a single large public-private partnership to enhance flexibility and speed up implementation.
MEED reported in April 2025 that SAR issued a tender for the lead design consultancy services contract on its planned Landbridge, according to Argaam’s data.
