2 Iranian oil tankers intercepted in Strait of Hormuz

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said it intercepted two Iranian oil tankers as they attempted to breach restrictions on Iranian shipments, as Washington intensifies pressure on Tehran’s crude exports amid continued Iranian threats to maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.

In a statement on X, CENTCOM said the vessels, very large crude carriers “Hedi” and “Hero 2”, are now anchored at Iran’s Chabahar port on the Gulf of Oman, after being intercepted earlier this week while trying to evade US monitoring.

Data and shipping analytics firm Kpler said the two tankers had previously headed toward the Arabian Sea, in what was viewed as a test of the effectiveness of the US blockade, which began being strictly enforced earlier last week, Bloomberg reported.
