Saudi Binladin Group (SBG), Saudi Arabia's largest contractor, has secured a contract to build a new passenger terminal at the Maldives international airport, being built at a total cost of $800 million.
The new terminal will be built on an area of 78,000 square meters, Reuters reported, citing a statement from the Maldives government.
Maldives officials said they were in talks with China’s EXIM Bank, Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development (KFAED), Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD), and the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) to secure funding for the project.
No details were provided by officials on the size or value of the contract with Binladin.
Last March, the Saudi government allowed the construction group to resume bidding for state projects, Argaam previously reported.
SBG had been earlier sanctioned by King Salman and suspended from obtaining new government contracts due to the collapse of a construction crane at Makkah’s Grand Mosque.
