Dubai is home to the highest number of the world’s top 100 tallest buildings, MEED reported, citing the latest rankings from the US-based Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CBTUH).

The city has 15 of the 100 tallest buildings worldwide, compared to seven for New York, which ranked second.

China’s Shenzhen, Hong Kong and Chicago make up the rest of the top five cities, the report said.

Meanwhile, Abu Dhabi was ranked 13th, with two of the tallest 100 buildings. The Middle East region, overall, had 21 of the 100 buildings on the list.

In the rankings for contractors, Lebanon’s Arabian Construction Company (ACC) came second globally, having built six out of the top 100 buildings.

Saudi Binladin Group was ranked seventh with three buildings, while the UAE’s Arabtec Construction and Dubai Civil Engineering were both ranked 11th with two buildings each.

In the developers’ category, Dubai-listed Emaar Properties secured the top spot with five of the world’s top 100 buildings.

The tallest building in the rankings is the under-construction Jeddah Tower in Saudi Arabia, which CTBUH says will reach a height of 1,000 meters.
