Expat remittances from Saudi Arabia down 4% in 9M 2016

Remittance outflows from expatriates in Saudi Arabia fell 4 percent year-on-year (YoY) to SAR 113.4 billion in September, data from the Saudi Arabian Monetary Agency showed.


They also hit a 41-month low of SAR 10.3 billion in July, down by 19 percent YoY.

 

Expat remittances for the first seven months of 2016 amounted to SAR 89.8 billion, a 5 percent decline compared to the same period last year.

 

According to Saudi Arabia’s labor minister, there are about 9 million expats working in the private sector.

Saudi nationals sent a total of SAR 45.6 billion to other countries during the nine months period, down 31 percent YoY, the report added.
