Saudi Arabia's inflation rate increased to 2.3% in June, compared to the previous month, according to the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT).
The cost-of-living index, using 2018 as the base year, advanced to 113.74 points in June 2025, compared to 111.22 points in June 2024.
Inflation is measured by the annual percentage change in the cost of living, comparing the current period with the same period a year earlier. Monthly changes in inflation reflect increases or declines relative to the previous month.
GASTAT attributed the rise in inflation primarily to a 6.5% year-on-year (YoY) increase in housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuel prices. Food and beverage prices rose 1.5% over the same period, while prices for miscellaneous goods and services climbed 4.1% YoY.
The authority explained that the increase in housing-related costs was driven by a 7.6% YoY increase in residential rents, mainly due to a 7.1% surge in villa rental prices. This category reported the largest impact on the inflation rate last month, given its 25.5% weight in the consumer price index (CPI).
In contrast, furnishings and household equipment prices fell 0.8% YoY, largely due to a 3.6% drop in furniture, carpets, and floor coverings prices. Clothing and footwear also registered a 0.6% annual drop, driven by a 1.4% decrease in ready-made clothing prices.
The transport sector recorded a decline of 0.7%, driven by a 1.7% drop in vehicle purchase prices.
The consumer price index (CPI) reflects changes in the prices paid by consumers for a fixed basket of goods and services, consisting of 490 items selected based on the 2018 Household Expenditure and Income Survey. The relevant prices are collected through field visits to points of sale.
