The number of oil rigs in the US increased by six to 413 for the week ended Dec. 5, Baker Hughes data showed. Last week, the number of oil rigs dropped to an over four-year low.
On the other hand, the number of natural gas rigs decreased by one to 129 during the same week.
The increase in the number of active drilling rigs points to the possibility of higher future supply, at a time when concerns are rising over a potential global surplus next year, especially as US crude production continues to post record monthly levels.
