The national strategy for agriculture 2030 seeks to create a sustainable agricultural sector that achieves food and water security, as well as economic, social, and environmental development in Saudi Arabia, Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, Abdulrahman bin Abdulmohsen Al-Fadhli said.

In a statement issued on the ministry’s official Twitter account, Al-Fadhli pointed out that the strategy relies on 5 main themes that are sustainability of natural resources, achieving food security, prevention, welfare of society and farms, and economic contribution.

He also indicated that all the strategies of the ministry’s sectors will be fulfilled following the completion of the agriculture strategy. This achieves a full reference framework in which systems, legislation and instructions can be built.

The minister added that 7 terms of reference have been transferred to his ministry from the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs.

These terms included public interest markets (vegetables, fruits, meat, fish, livestock, camels, birds, firewood, fodder, and slaughter-houses).

Al-Fadhli noted that some intersecting activities between the two ministries will be organized and governed to achieve public interest.

According to data compiled by Argaam, Saudi Arabia's Cabinet approved the National Strategy for Agriculture and the executive summary (2030). It also agreed to transfer some terms of reference from the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs to the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, according to the scheduled time-table for each of them.
