Sadara Chemical Company (Sadara) signed an agreement, today, July 1, with the Saudi Arabian Railway Co. (SAR), to transport its solids and liquids through the latter’s trains and containers.

Under the 25-year agreement, liquids will be transported in two trips daily from Sadara’s complex to King Fahd Industrial Port, and in three trips to Jubail Commercial Port (containers), SAR said on its Twitter account.

A total of 125,000 containers are expected to be handled annually, and railway lines will be extended from Sadara’s complex to both ports.

Under the deal, Sadara will carry its products from the Jubail-based complex to export facilities at King Fahd Industrial Port and Jubail Commercial Port. Meanwhile, SAR will provide the required trains, locomotives and tankers.

Sadara expects a positive impact from the deal, as the railways will replace over 200,000 trucks that carry its products annually to Jubail ports. The move will also help reduce harmful emissions.

The railways project is being finalized in Jubail Industrial City. The transport services are expected to begin in H2 2021.
