The Saudi Ports Authority (MAWANI) announced today, Jan. 20, the launch of a new shipping line to Jeddah Islamic Port, which links Europe and the Mediterranean to the Middle East and the Indian subcontinent through North Africa, the authority said in a statement.

The new shipping line (IO3) covers important ports, including the Port of Tanger Med in Morocco and the Port of Algeciras in Spain.

This comes as a continuation of the strategic partnerships with shipping lines represented by Hapag-Lloyd, CMA CGM, COSCO, and Ocean Network Express (ONE), which are among the largest leading shipping companies in the world.

MAWANI indicated that IO3 will provide a service linking the Jeddah Islamic Port with the Indian Ocean ports and Northern European ports.

It pointed out that the service consists of seven ships, with a capacity of 8,500 standard containers for each vessel, approximately 48 vessels per year, which allows for a greater cargo capacity than before.

IO3 will boost trade exchange, import and direct export. It will also reduce the shipment time and increase the quantities of containers handled at the port.
