Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Defense announced in a statement on Sunday, March 7, 2021, that one of the petroleum tank farms at Ras Tanura Port in the Eastern Region was attacked by a drone from the sea side.

Later on Sunday evening, shrapnel from a ballistic missile fell near Saudi Aramco's residential facilities in Dhahran, where thousands of the company’s employees and their families from different nationalities reside.

Col. Turki Al-Maliki, spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense, said that the drone coming from the sea was destroyed and brought down before reaching its target, and the ballistic missile that targeted Saudi Aramco facilities in Dhahran was also destroyed.

“The missile’s interception and destruction caused the shrapnel to fall near civilian areas,” Al-Maliki explained.

"Such acts of sabotage not only target Saudi Arabia but also the security and stability of energy supplies to the world, and therefore, the global economy," he added.

Al-Maliki further stated that Saudi Arabia will take the necessary measures to protect its national assets in order to preserve global energy security and stop such terrorist attacks to ensure the stability of global energy supplies.
