Saudi Arabia’s Cabinet, chaired by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz, approved today, Dec. 28, the Evidence Law.

The Evidence Law is the first among the draft laws announced earlier by Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

In February 2021, the Crown Prince announced four new laws to reform the Kingdom’s judicial institutions and efforts toward improving the “legislative environment”.

The four new laws include the Personal Status Law, the Civil Transactions Law, the Penal Code For Discretionary Sentences, and the Law of Evidence.

The personal status law will be issued in the first quarter of 2022, followed by the remaining two laws.

Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman said these laws will achieve a major shift in the Saudi legislative system and enhance its principles.

The Law of Evidence meets the contemporary needs of social, economic and technological life, in line with Shariah. It also leverages on the best international practices adopted regionally and globally. The new law will also strengthen justice and protect properties and the rights of all individuals.
